Questions and Answers

Q. Do you have to have a rare, one of a kind coin certified? The photo itself wld show buyers how unique the coin is.

Asked by Robin Mills on Jun 29, 2021

I'm unsure of what you are asking. Most coins should not be certified. We certify coins when we want to establish authenticity. Certifying a coin does not add to its value, rather, it just makes the coin more saleable. I would not recommend this for coins close to face value or with an easily documented bullion value. Certification is useful when a coin is on the border of two grades with a big price jump; for instance, one that is $500 in MS63 and $1,200 in MS64. Then it makes sense to spend $40 on grading. I hope this helps.
