I've seen "struck through grease" errors with similar weak features; beyond that it's a mystery!

this is the other one i have. it does not appear altered. even under 130x magnification. you can see the grain like pattern running through it. Thanks for your quick response on the america on the line. This one is a 2000 D if that helps.
