Personally I would not classify this as an error. These kinds of modern varieties are common and are really more about the dies wearing and getting polished overtime and losing some of the sharpness of the original features. There is very little additional value in such things so I do not follow them very closely, my heart lies with the older stuff. If you do a video search for these topics you'll find plenty of well-intentioned numismatists describing them very accurately on YouTube And other websites.
