In 1942 the U.S. mint switched from a copper-nickel composition to a wartime alloy of silver and manganese for nickels. They did this through 1945 and then returned to the original alloy. In 1942 both types of nickels were made at the various mints. Yours is definitely the silver type, you can tell because for these wartime nickels only, the mint marks appear over Monticello on the reverse of the coin. The value of your coin is $1.25, mostly because of the current price of silver.
