I found this coin back in 1971, when I started collecting coins. I thought it was the 1943 steel penny, but found out it was the wrong date. I figured someone played with it. But then I learned about error coins. It has the very same color as a 1943 steel vent with a little pitting. Have you ever seen one like this? Thank you.

It's fairly easy to boil a cent in zinc powder and sodium hydroxide to give it a silvery coating. To me, that's the likeliest explanation.
