It could be damaged by acid. It could also be a wrong planchet error. The problem is even if you send it to a grading company to get it certified they don’t always recognize it for what it is. It’s interesting, if an authentic error could be worth $50 to 100 but it might be hard to prove that’s what it is. Unfortunately you’re at the mercy of the confidence of grading companies and dealers.

Was inventorying some of my collection and ran across this penny. Not sure if it's a wrong planchet error , mint error or man made error. It really doesn't look the be a damaged coin .
The size and weight are way off for a penny of this yeat
