I'll bet he (she?) offered you $170. How close am I? By my count, you have ten 90% silver half dollars, five 40%, two copper nickel ones, four silver dollars, an eisenhower, and $1.10 in 90% silver minor coins, with a few cents in the mix. Often we calculate things quickly because we have a lot of experience. You don't have anything rare, these were set aside because of silver content or because they are old an interesting; a few of the newer ones are merely face value. I apologize that my fine colleagues don't all have the greatest bedside manner. I could pay somewhat more than that, but the retail value probably tops out around $200 at most.

Hi Marc,
After putting my uncle's coin collection on a counter at a shop on long island, the appraiser across from me didn't even bother to look at them and just gave me a random price. I left feeling so defeated. Obviously these coins were important to him. I appreciate you taking the time to look and offering your honest appraisal.
