I honestly can’t tell what happened to this coin. I think the odds of damage, such as that something scratched through the oxidation to the underlying surface or some kind of material splashed onto the coin and adhered to it or stripped it, are greater than the odds it was an error that preceeded circulation. Certification might achieve that but could cost more than it’s worth even in the unlikely event it is in an error.

It weights 3.0, not sure what this is, it looks more shinny than copper, maybe brass not sure but I do know in 1944 they used different minting materials because of the war. Also might have been a strike error on reverse as well. Thank you in advance for your time and any info you might have, good day.
